KARACHI: Women to be imparted livestock training

KARACHI, Nov 2: A month-long training in livestock production and preparation of dairy products, domestication of chicken, and use of farm yard manure would be imparted to a group of 100 middle-pass women in coastal area at the Research Training Institute, Tando Mohammad Khan.

The course is being started under the ‘Improvement of Livestock’ scheme in the coastal areas of Thatta and Badin.

The scheme has been identified and sponsored by the Sindh Coastal Development Authority (SCDA) to be executed by Sindh Livestock Department at a total cost of Rs39.98 million during the current financial year.

The area of operations for this scheme will be eight coastal Talukas — Mirpur Sakro, Ghorabari, Keti Bandar, Kharo Chhaan, Shah Bandar, Jati, Badin and Golarchi (Badin/Thatta districts).

Under the scheme, two mobile veterinary dispensaries will be established at Gharo (Thatta district) and Bhugra Memon (Badin district).

These units will help keep livestock population free from deadly diseases by providing vaccination against PPR, HS, black quarter, enterotoxaemia and anthrax, etc., and also provide other veterinary health service at the doorsteps of the livestock farmers.

The scheme, according to SCDA sources, lays emphasis on preventive vaccination and trypanosomiasis, drenching against internal parasites and dipping against ecto-parasites by inoculating 50 per cent livestock population and 25 per cent drenching.—APP
