TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 1: The district government has refused to utilize Rs0.6 million grant of opposition MPA Begum Nishat Afza for the construction of the district press club building.

The PPP (Parliamentarian) MPA had visited Toba Tek Singh a few months ago and on the request of press club office bearers she had promised to allocate the grant.

In response to her letter to the local government department in this regard, the department issued a letter to the district government to spend the allocated amount on the completion of the under-construction press club building.

The DCO wrote to officials of the local government department but press club president Manzoor Naz was later informed that the Punjab government had disallowed the utilization of MPA’s grant.

Mr Naz apprised the officials that former MPA Dr Anwarul Haq had also allocated Rs50,000 grant from his development funds which were utilized on the construction of the press club building, but they did not agree with his point of view.

The press club president wrote a letter to the woman MPA on Saturday, informing her about the hurdles being created by the district government in the utilization of her funds.

He requested MPA Begum Afza to talk to Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for the utilization of her development funds on the press club building.

CONCERN: Gojra tehsil council members on Saturday expressed their grave concern over the shortage of fertilizer in Gojra tehsil.

Speaking at a tehsil council meeting with Naib Nazim Mian Imtiaz Ashraf in the chair, they complained that fertilizer was being sold at high prices.
