TEHRAN, Nov 1: Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned the British ambassador in Tehran on Saturday to complain about remarks by Prime Minister Tony Blair, the British Embassy said.
Tony Blair told BBC radio on Thursday that global commitment shown in the Iraq war to counter weapons of mass destruction had helped convince the Iranians to cooperate with the UN nuclear watchdog.
“The ambassador was summoned this afternoon over Blair’s comments,” said a British diplomat. The IRNA said the UK envoy was told Blair’s remarks were illogical.
“Mr Blair should not give bogus reasons and create propaganda...to escape answering world opinion on the legitimacy of occupying Iraq,” an Iranian official was quoted as saying.
