KARACHI, Oct 31: Middleweight Ahmad Ali lost to Uzbekistan’s Utikirbek Haydarov 11-21 in the final, ending Pakistan’s hopes of winning a boxing gold at the inaugural Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, India, on Friday.

According to information provided by Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), Ahmad was the only boxer to reach the finals, while the remaining three crashed out of the competition.

Earlier, top pugilists featherweight Meherullah and light-welterweight Asghar Ali Shah, and another medal hope light-flyweight Noman Kareem were ousted after unimpressive performances.

Apart from Ahmad who won the silver, Asghar, who got a bye, managed to claim the bronze. The boxing team returns on Nov 3.—PPI
