KARACHI, Oct 31: A survey of government assets in the province, to assess their condition and value, will be conducted with a view to cut unnecessary expenditures, by disposing of these assets, including useless vehicles, according to the related rules and regulations.
This was decided at a high-level meeting, presided over by Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Qazi on Friday.
In the light of the suggestions forwarded by the senior members of the Board of Revenue, and additional chief secretaries (Interior, Developments and Local Government), the chief secretary sought a report regarding the assets from all provincial departments, so that an effective policy could be evolved for implementation.
The Additional Chief Secretaries, Ghulam Sarwar Khero (Development), Syed Anwar Haider (Home), Mohammad Salim Khan (Local Government), and other officers attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the CS called upon the Environment and Alternative Energy (EAE) department to play effective role in beautifying environment in the province.
He said that the newly-established department had been assigned with an important task to ensure development and progress in the province, adding that unclean environment hampered undergoing uplift works.
He expressed these views while commenting on an application filed by the Deputy Secretary, Environment, Dr Said Iqbal, for inclusion of Environment & Alternative Energy as a new subject in the Masters Programme at the Karachi University, the other day.
The CS observed that inclusion of the Environment was a new subject at varsity level would have a healthy impact over the province as well as the country.
He said that work was underway on recommendations regarding generation of alternative energy through chemical reaction and recycling of industrial waste and garbage, adding that another suggestion to benefit from the services of experts in this regard was also under consideration.
Dr Qazi urged industrialists, traders and engineers to play their role in the progress and prosperity of the country.—PPI
