India promises efforts to make peace


NEW DELHI, Oct 30: Defence Minister George Fernandes on Thursday said that India would make all efforts to make peace process with Pakistan a success.

Mr Fernandes remarks at the Naval Commanders annual conference here came a day after Islamabad’s comprehensive response to the Indian proposals, offered last week.

The minister said that as part of ongoing thaw with India’s other neighbour China, the proposed joint naval exercises with Beijing would commence shortly.

On the progress of the major naval projects like Seabird establishment of major naval base at Karwar in Karnatka and the naval academy coming up at Ezhimala in Kerala, Mr Fernandes said these projects were likely to be completed before hand.—APP
