Prices of essential commodities go up

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, Oct 30: Residents of Mansehra and other areas of the district have termed the Ramazan package announced by the government as mere eye-wash.

A survey conducted by this correspondent revealed on Thursday that although the government had fixed the price of 20kg flour at Rs 180, the consumers are not prepared to use it, as according to them, the flour is adulterated and contains more quantity of husk.

Most of the people were of the view that in the beginning, the suppliers provided flour according to specified standard, but from the next day the quality went down along with the weight. Today the bag contains 17 to 18 kilograms of adulterated flour.

The role of price review committees has also been under fire as they have disappeared after fixing the prices leaving the people on the mercy of profiteers.

They claim that the committees have no control on the prices and it appears that they were working in collusion with hoarders and profiteers.

Steep rise can be seen in the prices of vegetables and fruits, besides the prices of other commodities.

The people have demanded of the government to activate the price committees and get relief from the profiteers and hoarders.
