TIMERGARA, Oct 30: Dir Qaumi Mahaz, a group of six political parties, boycotted voting on a no-trust motion against the Nazim of Upper Dir district, accusing the district coordination officer of bias.
The voting against Nazim Sahibzada Tariqullah was to be held on Thursday, but the opposition alleged that the returning officer was not impartial and boycotted the proceedings.
Dir Qaumi Mahaz comprises the Awami National Party, Pakistan People’s Party (Sherpao), Pakistan People’s Party (Patriot), Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI) and Pakistan Muslim League (QA).
The administration had set up two polling stations, one in Dir Khas and the other in Wari, for the 470 councillors who were to poll their votes in the second round of voting on the no-trust motion against Mr Tariqullah.
The opposition required some 236 votes to oust the Nazim.
