Two killed as heavy power lines fall in Ghallanai

By Shams Mohmand

GHALLANAI (Mohmand Agency), Oct 30: Two people, including a young girl, were electrocuted and three others received injuries when a heavy transmission line fell in Khurram Cheena area, some 20 kilometres from the agency headquarters, here on Thursday.

One of the victims has been identified as Abdur Raziq, son of Hazrat Wali, while the name of the girl could not be ascertained. The injured were: Mushtaq, son of Mursalin; Adnan, son of Tahir Khan; and Ali Taj, son of Maulvi Abdur Rahim.

The 11000kv power line fell on the supply line to Sultankhel area in the Khurram Cheena, causing an abrupt rise in the voltage, and all electricity wires, equipment and power lines in all houses of the village caught fire.

The villagers said the people at homes tried to save their costly electricity equipment but they could not do so because of sudden damage.

Villagers say that the power supply lines were laid in the Mohmand Agency in 1975, after which no attempt has been made by the authorities concerned to replace them.
