KARACHI: Carpet dealer shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 30: A carpet trader was shot dead in what police described as a target killing in Sindh Muslim Housing Society on Thursday.

According to reports, Shahzad Iqbal, 45, owner of a carpet shop near Kazi Chowk, had came out of his office and sat in his vehicle, when two young men opened fire at him and fled on a motorcycle, the police and the eyewitnesses said.

The police said that the victim had suffered two bullets in the head and the neck and died before he could be taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The police said the assailants took away no valuables. The police also ruled out the incident as a car-snatching attempt saying there was no sign of any such attempt.

Police said the victim’s son, Sohail Shahzad, who had lodged an FIR, said that the killing might be the result of some enmity. However he had not nominated anyone in the case so far.

ACCIDENT: Enraged people set fire to a bus in Pak Colony after a road accident in Sharshah in which a young pedestrian was killed on Thursday.

Police said that Mohammad Tariq, 27, a pedestrian was crossing a road at Mera Naka Road when he was hit by a bus of route (7-C). The errant bus escaped from the spot.

The victim died on the spot. His body was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

At a little distance from the spot, in the limits of the Pak Colony police station, angry people caught hold of another bus of the same route and set it on fire. Police said the vehicle was totally gutted before the fire brigade could reach the spot.

An eight year old boy died in a road accident in Baldia town Thursday.

Police said that Arshad was crossing a road in Baldia 4-1/2 when a speeding minibus of route (G-7) knocked him down. The errant driver escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

The young boy was taken to the nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

An unidentified man died in a road traffic accident in Azizabad on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, in his mid 30’s, was knocked down by a speeding vehicle at Husainabad Road.

DIES: A sweeper died when he suffered a fatal blow in his abdomen by a teenager in Clifton on Thursday.

Police said that Varyam, 40, a sweeper was working at Tauheed Commercial when he had a fight with Amir, 13, a garbage collector. After an exchange of hot words, Amir struck Varyam in his abdomen and the blow proved fatal.
