SRINAGAR, Oct 29: Eight people were killed on Wednesday in occupied Kashmir including two children and a woman shot dead in a gunbattle at a residence for army families, police said on Wednesday.

Troops killed a Mujahid allegedly involved in the Sunday derailment of a train after a four-hour shootout at the family quarters for army engineers at Akhnoor on the outskirts of Jammu, police said.

Police said two Mujahideen involved in the train attack had been killed on Monday in a gunbattle from which a third suspect escaped. The surviving person broke into the family quarters late on Tuesday, police said.

Commandos raided the residences early on Wednesday and the Mujahideen opened fire indiscriminately, shooting dead two children and a woman and injuring eight other people, before he was killed, police said.

Indian troops shot dead two rebels in a gunbattle in the southern Doda district Wednesday while two militants were killed elsewhere, police said.—AFP
