US urged to help settle Kashmir issue
RAWALPINDI, Oct 29: Information and Broadcasting Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Wednesday that the government would not compromise on the country’s vital interests, including the Kashmir issue and nuclear capability.
Speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by the residents of the city, he said Pakistan wanted to live like a good neighbour with India and resolve all the outstanding issues.
However, he warned that Pakistan would not succumb to any threat or pressure.
Referring to cooperation between India and the United States, he said the US should play its role to make Pakistan and India settle the Kashmir issue.
He urged the international community to play its role to avoid a situation leading to a conflict between the two countries.
The minister said difference of opinion was the essence of politics but it should not become a cause for undermining national interests.
He expressed disappointment over the opposition’s move to come up with forged letters claiming that those came from personnel of the armed forces.
He claimed that Indian hand was behind the letters and those who came up with the fake documents had harmed national interests.
The opposition might differ with the government but avoid defaming institutions of national security, he said.
He said two hospitals would be built in the city with a grant of Rs200 million.
The minister said the Murree Road would be widened and two underpasses, including one at the Committee Chowk, would be constructed to counter the problem of traffic congestion.
He said plans were under way to provide water from the Ghazi Barotha Dam for the city.—APP
