Doctors, paramedics boycott work: Attack on civil surgeon

DADU, Oct 29: Doctors, paramedical staff and other health officials boycotted their OPDs in the Civil Hospital Dadu, Taluka hospital Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Sehwan, Kotri, Thana Bula Khan, Johi and other hospitals of Bhan Saeedabad, Sita Road and Radhan on Wednesday to protest against police failure to arrest the armed men who had attacked the civil surgeon of Civil Hospital Dadu and other senior doctors.
The doctors held a protest demonstration for the second consecutive day on Wednesday from the Civil Hospital to the residence of federal minister for industries and production, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi, in Dadu town.
They were led by EDO (Health) Dr Maula Bux Jamali, Taluka health officer Dadu, Dr Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, civil surgeon of Civil Hospital, Dr Javed Ahmed Dawachh, Chief RMO Dr Dost Mohammad Bughio, and the general secretary of PMA Dadu, Dr Taufique Ahmed Memon.
Speaking to the demonstrators, Dr Jamali said that the civil surgeon, Dr Javed Ahmed Dawachh, had an FIR lodged against three armed men and one of them was identified as Aijaz Ahmed but the police was using delaying tactics and had not arrested him.
He said that if the accused were not arrested they would continue their protest throughout the district.
On the occasion, the federal minister industries and production, Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi, came out of his house to meet with a delegation of doctors. He assured the doctors that the accused would be arrested immediately and justice would be provided to them.
He informed the EDO, health, that he had directed the DPO, operation, Ali Akbar Bhangwar, and the DPO, investigation, Tipu Sultan, to arrest all accused within 24 hours.
He informed the EDO, health, that security would be provided to the hospitals to face the law and order situation.
On his assurance, they ended their strike.
TEACHERS’ PROTEST: Teachers of secondary, higher and middle schools of Dadu district on the call of the Government Secondary Teachers Association, Dadu, boycotted their classes on Wednesday to protest against the EDO, Education.
They held a protest demonstration and marched from the EDO office to the New Chowk, Dadu, where they staged a sit-in.
The GSTA district president, Rafique Ahmed Jatoi; its vice-president, Ghulam Nabi Mallah, and its general secretary, Abdul Hameed Memon, accused the EDO, education, of issuing out of turn promotion orders and awarding selection grades to junior school teachers after receiving bribe.
He said that the EDO had also appointed 50 oriental teachers illegally.
Abdul Hameed said that the EDO had issued appointment orders of 70 teachers illegally, and added that the teachers were also transferred despite a ban.
He said that the EDO had delegated DDO’s powers of Government Boys Degree College, Dadu, to a junior official.
He said the notification was issued appointing him as principal, Government Commercial Institute, Dadu, but he was posted as the EDO, education, illegally.
