Singh grabs title

LAKE BUENA VISTA, (Florida), Oct 27: Fiji’s Vijay Singh reclaimed the US PGA Tour money lead from top-ranked Tiger Woods here Sunday by firing a five-under par 67 to capture the Disney Classic by four strokes.

Singh won US$720,000 for his 15th career victory and fourth of the year, raising his season money total to US$6,827,507 at the four million-dollar event.

Singh, 40, began the day with a four-way share of the lead but birdied five of the first 12 holes. He took a bogey at 13, birdied the next hole, made bogey at the 16th but finished with a birdie to end 72 holes at 23-under 265.

Woods opened with a bogey but charged back with six birdies and an eagle to fire a final-round 65 and share second with fellow Americans Scott Verplank and Stewart Cink, who began level with Singh but could only each muster a 71.

In jeopardy of losing the money title for only the second time in his career, Woods will skip next week’s event while Singh plays. Both men will go for the crown at the season-ending Tour Championship next month in Houston.
