Aamer and Rawait rescue Customs


KARACHI, Oct 27: A superb unbeaten knock of 115 by skipper Aamer Bashir was the cornerstone in Pakistan Customs first innings total of 270 on Monday in their three-day Patrons Cricket Trophy qualifying rounds against holders PIA at Quaid-i-Azam Park Ground Steel Town despite fiery bowling by pace duo of Fazle Akber and Umar.

Put to bat first, Customs fought-back from 33 for two to 270 all out in 74 overs mainly due to 142 runs third wicket stand between opener Rawait Khan and Aamer Bashir.

PIA in reply were 31 for the loss of Ghulam Ali, who went to Junaid Zia for 11. Kamran Sajid with 11 and night-watchman Umar Gul with three were at the crease at the close.

Aamer struck 12 boundaries and a six his 115 not out after batting for 268 minutes and facing 169 balls.

A former Derbyshire player Rawait Khan was caught behind by Ahmed Zeeshan Malik for 80 off let-arm paceman Najaf Shah. He batted for 213 minutes and faced 169 balls.

Fazle Akber and Umar Gul caused the main damage in Customs batting ranks after a great start. Fazle Akber finished five wickets for 53 runs in 18 overs and Umar Gul snapped-up four wickets for 79 runs in 22 overs.

Fazle and Umar triggered collapse in Customs batting as their last seven wickets crashed for 29 runs.

In another match, Pak PWD recovered to reach 254 all out in their first innings thanks to a fighting half centuries by Amin-ur- Rehman and Saad Wasim on the opening day against Pakistan Navy at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium.

Amin and Riaz Shaikh added 72 runs for 7th wicket to save their team from being bowled out for much lower total.

PWD batting first, slipped to 157 for six after electing to bat first but made a steady recovery. By close Navy reached 15 for the loss of one wicket in five overs. M.Waheed with six and Junaid Khan with five were at crease.

Former Pakistan under-19 player, Amin topscored with 72 spiced with five boundaries. Riaz Shaikh made 39 with two hits to the boundary. Saad Wasim hit a polished 65 with five hits to the ropes.

Right arm medium pacer Farman Shah caused the early damage to finish with four wickets for 29 runs while slow left arm spinner Muhammad Ali picked up three wickets for 87 runs.

Teenager Faraz Patel hit a brilliant hundred to power debutant Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) to 377 all out in their first innings against Dewan Farooqui Motors Ltd (DFML) at UBL Sports Complex ground.

It was two useful stands involving Faraz which gave impetus to KESC innings. Faraz first added 96 runs for the fourth wicket with Mansoor Khan and later shared 115 runs for sixth wicket with captain Arif Mahmood.

Faraz hit seven boundaries in his 111 after marathon 307 minute stay at the crease. Arif smashed 68 in 81 minutes. Mansoor Khan cracked 61.

Despite high score by KESC, medium pacer Ovais Athar produced superb bowling effort, taking five wickets for 36 runs. He got good support from left arm spinner Rehan Rafiq, who claimed four wickets for 46 runs.
