AKG event starts tomorrow

KARACHI, Oct 26: Sixteen teams will compete for top honours in the Aga Khan Gymkhana Color-kit Ramazan Cricket Festival that gets under way from Tuesday at the AKG Ground.

Defending champions Pakistan Cricket Club and Rafiq Shirazi Memorial CC, the runners-up last year, are both missing this time in the 16-team tournament.

The winners of the latest edition will be awarded Rs50,000 with Rs25,000 going to the beaten finalists. Individual awards vary from Rs500 (for man-of-the-match in preliminary round matches) to Rs5,000 for the man-of-the-tournament.

The competing teams have been allowed to field two guest players.

On the opening day, Shaheen Gymkhana face Total Energy Sports at 1.00pm. On Fridays, the action is scheduled to begin at 2.00pm with the number of overs curtailed to 22 per side.

Following are the participating teams:

Pool ‘A’: Total Energy Sports, Shaheen Gymkhana, Baqai Dolphins, A.O. Cricket Club.

Pool ‘B’: Pak Gymkhana, United Sports, Godhra Sports, Prince Gymkhana.

Pool ‘C’: Al-Noor Gymkhana, Mohammad Hussain Cricket Club, Khatri Sports, Cantt Sports.

Pool ‘D’: Aleem Sports, Delhi City Gymkhana, Aga Khan Gymkhana, Malir Companion.
