Tribute paid to Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan


ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: Speakers, including Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, on Saturday praised the services of late Dr Akhtar Hameed Khan, a renowned social scientist, for the betterment of the poor segment of society.

They were speaking at the premiere of a documentary screened at the auditorium of the National Insurance Company.

Rural development experts, social scientists, diplomats and journalists watched the documentary titled A vision unveiled and applauded the producer for highlighting the achievements and services of Dr Khan.

The finance minister said Dr Khan was a symbol to follow for those who were in the field of rural development. He called for carrying forward the vision of late Dr Khan who, he said, was a legend and others needed to learn from his experience.

He said Dr Khan had dedicated his life to the cause of serving people, especially the poor, in the region. He said the documentary should be screened on the electronic media and used as a medium of training.

Mr Aziz said the documentary showed the potential of our country. It also tells us that we have human capital, human resources and power of the people, he added.

He called for working together and utilizing the energies and carry the message of Dr Khan forward to make Pakistan an economically viable, vibrant and strong country.

Shoaib Sultan Khan said he had never seen a person of the stature of late Dr Khan in his whole life. He also commended the services of Dr Khan for the socio-economic uplift of the poorest of the poor in the region.

He called upon rural development experts to follow the footprints of Dr Khan if they wanted to really serve the poor segment of society.—APP
