GUJRANWALA, Oct 26: The paucity of funds has affected the construction work of the medical college so badly that the classes could not be started from December this year, it was learnt here on Saturday.
The Punjab chief minister had accepted the demand of the people for setting up the medical college in Gujranwala. He also directed that classes should be started at the DHQ Hospital till the completion of the medical college building. For this purpose, the DHQ administration has reserved a portion of the hospital.
The DCO had also given an approval for starting classes at the new building in December, but the government could not release the funds.
EDO (Health) Dr Zafer Iqbal Niazi said he had already sent the feasibility report to the government according to which Rs65 million were required for the construction work.
District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha said the government wanted to construct the medical college with the assistance of citizens.
FIELD DAY : Armed bandits looted two houses and a food godown in and around the city.
Two dacoits busted into the house of Aslam in Satellite Town, Faqirpura locality. They held the inmates hostage, locked them in a room, collected Rs80,000 in cash, jewellery worth Rs280,000 and other valuables and escaped.
Three bandits entered Iqbal’s house by scaling its boundary wall in Talwandi Khajoorwali village. They held up the women and children, snatched Rs30,000 in cash, jewellery, electronic goods and fled with the booty.
Unidentified dacoits broke into the food godown in Kamoki and took away about 194 wheat bags and then sold them in the Grain Market.
Police have registered a case against a Grain Market commission agent and other accused.
