MMA asks UN to take notice of Indian firing in AJK
MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 26: An eight-member parliamentary fact-finding mission of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has called upon the UN to play its role in preventing Indian occupation troops from targeting civilian population residing on and along the Line of Control in the AJK.
The MMA parliamentary delegation, after conducting a three-day tour of the Neelam Valley, presented a memorandum addressed to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, asking the world body to take serious notice of the firing and shelling on civilian population in the Neelum Valley and other areas near the Line of Control in the AJK by Indian forces.
The parliamentary mission marched towards the UN Military Observers Group office (UNMOGIP) here on Sunday.
They urged the UN to ensure protection of civilian population living in these areas from shelling of the Indian troops and put pressure on New Delhi to stop gross human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and on the LoC in the AJK.
Prior to proceeding to UNMOGIP office, the parliamentary team of the MMA addressed a press conference at the State Guest House.
The head of the delegation, MNA Shabbir Ahmed Jan, who is also President of Shabab-i-Milly, told newsmen about miserable conditions of the people living in the Neelum Valley.
The MMA leader was of the view that Indian occupation troops had made the life of the people in these areas very difficult and miserable.
The MMA leader said they visited the Kundal Shahi, Sharda, Halmat, Leswa Bypass, Keran Bypass and various other parts of the remotest areas of the Neelum Valley, where they said they witnessed the signs of Indian death and destruction.
They said they would submit a complete report to their Supreme Council and would raise this issue at the floor of the House in the National Assembly.
They paid rich tribute to the people of these areas for theircourage despite facing critical situation at the hands of Indian occupation troops.
The other lawmakers of the MMA team included Mian Muhammad Aslam, Maulana Rahmatullah Khalil, Hussain Ahmed Mehnati, Pervez Masih, Qari Gul Rehman, and Fazal-i-Subhan.—APP
