WASHINGTON, Oct 25: Citizens from Pakistan and 24 other mainly Muslim nations, who registered with US immigration officials last year, are now required to report for their second annual registration, US officials said on Saturday.

“All foreign male nationals who are currently in the United States and submitted to special call-in registration are reminded that the one year re-registration requirement is still in effect,” said an official statement.

Those who registered with US immigration authorities during the special call-in registration programme initiated in 2002 must return to their local immigration office to comply with the one-year re-registration requirement, the announcement said.

They are required to re-register with the local immigration office within 10 days of the day they came for their first registration last year.

“For example, if you registered on Nov 15, 2002, you must report to the local immigration office between Nov 5-25, 2003,” said a US immigration official.

This re-registration applies to all men who are in the United States and remained in the country for the entire year without leaving the country.

Those who left the United States and returned at some point during the year, or those who are currently visiting the United States and were registered at a port of entry, fall within the port of entry registration requirements.

New immigration rules made available to Dawn by the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services require them to call for re-registration between 30 and 40 days of their re-entering the United States as well as at the one-year anniversary of their re-entry registration.
