Naseeb fancied to win Gulberg Cup
LAHORE, Oct 25: Three-year-old bay colt Naseeb, should make amends by winning the Gulberg Cup, featuring the card of eight events during the Lahore Winter Meeting to be held on Sunday.
Contesting in the seventh race, a class I, II and III combined handicap race, Naseeb, a colt from Sheikh Albadoo out-of-Coxswan was beaten by bay colt Ponchi by three-fourth of a length in his previous outing over 1400m last Sunday.
He has been promoted from class IV to class I,II & III combined and assigned seven stones twelve pounds weight in handicap. He is appearing almost in a different company with 200 metres added to the race distance which should suit him.
The eighth and supporting event, the Islamabad Cup, a class V division I and II combined, to have gone over 1400 metres has ten runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
The racing fans should expect a keen contests with Mahnoor, Minni Me, Two-B and Glorious Song going all out to pick up the spoils.
Though carrying top weight of nine stones two pounds, Mahnoor on classification is a cut above in class, if stays sound.
The results of such events are always unpredictable. However, connoisseurs of sport may expect peculiar behaviour and interesting style of running from them in their maiden appearance.
The Sangla Hill Plate, a class IV division I and II to be run over 1200 metres has the biggest field of 18 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
Of them two are imported ones, namely, Catch All, a progeny of Known Fact out-of-Crystal Cavern and the three-year-old filly Dancing Key, a daughter of Halling out-of-Fleet Key.
Catch All had already won a good race during last season on June 8 while Dancing Key will be making her debut on the Lahore track on Sunday. On pedigree she should sweep over her opposition.
The first race will be held at 12.00 noon.
