VEHARI, Oct 25: Three participants in a marriage procession, including a minor girl, drowned in an open manhole in Chak 173/WB in Mitro union council area due to TMA staff’s negligence on Friday night.

The marriage procession came to the house of local trader Din Muhammad. As the marriage party was about to leave, eight-year-old Kulsoom, daughter of Chand Qureshi, fell into a 16-foot-deep uncovered manhole and drowned.

Her brother Ramzan, 25, also drowned while trying to save her. One of the participant Khalid, who belonged to Karachi, also jumped into the manhole to rescue them and also drowned.

Kulsoom and Ramzan were buried here on Saturday while the body of Khalid was sent to Karachi.
