TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 25: Representatives of farmers warned of suspending the payment of abiana to the government if the villages at the tail-end remained without the supply of irrigation water.

This was stated by Rajbah Khewra Action Committee chairman Chaudhry Saeed Akhtar, UC Naib Nazim Chaudhry Mohsin, councillors Rana Aslam, Rajab Ali, Saleem, Chaudhry Idrees, lumberdars Chaudhry Khalid, Haji Saeed and others while talking to newsmen here on Saturday.

They also threatened that a protest rally would be taken out from the district headquarters if their demands were not met.

The Irrigation department, they said, had completely failed to implement warabandi on rajbahs of Pandoori, Noorpur, Kallar, Gapni, Khatoor, Bahmni and Shikarpur due to which the water did not reach villages of Rajbah Khewra.

Farmers further blamed that close associates of parliamentarians were also involved in irregularities in connivance with the Irrigation department staff.

RESOLUTION: The District Council on Saturday passed a unanimous resolution, blaming the traffic police for taking ‘monthly’ from transporters and teasing farmers when they brought their produce to mills and markets.

The meeting, presided over by District Naib Nazim Haji Ghulam Rabbani, also criticised the PTCL divisional engineer for forcing new applicants to pay Rs300 and Rs200 for NOCs for commercial and domestic connections, respectively.

The district Nazim assured the house that the district government would provide funds for the construction of school buildings and the appointment of teachers to upgrade schools in Gojra.

SNATCHED: Two armed robbers snatched a taxi cab on Friday night in Gojra.

Posing as passengers, the robbers hired the cab (3773-TSA) and as it reached a deserted place they whipped out their weapons and tied driver Ameer Ali with a rope. They drove away with the vehicle after pushing out the driver in a nearby field.

RAMAZAN BAZAAR: The district government will set up Ramazan Bazaar in plots of Akbari Mosque to provide commodities to the people on subsidized prices.

This was informed here on Saturday in a joint meeting of the district price control and district Ihteram-i-Ramazan committees.
