HASSANABDAL, Oct 25: President General Pervez Musharraf has said the government has taken steps for the promotion of education.

He was addressing participants of parents’ day at the Cadet College, Hassanabdal, on Saturday.

The president said special attention is being given to the promotion of science and technology, adding that Rs6 billion had been allocated in this regard during the current financial year.

Gen Musharraf said that the progress and prosperity of a nation was dependent on promotion of education and development of its human resources.

“We have huge resources and great potential but without character-building, devotion, honesty and good intentions, we cannot achieve our ambitious goal of development and prosperity,” he observed.

The President announced a special grant of Rs10 million for the cadet college, saying that the government would sponsor the college’s expansion project.

Governor Punjab Lt-Gen (Retd) Khalid Maqbool also spoke on the occasion.
