ISLAMABAD: Clarification

Published October 26, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Oct 25: The spokesman for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has clarified that there was no likelihood of shortage of POL products in the country.

The spokesman said this while commenting on a news report which appeared in Dawn on Oct 24, stating that the country was likely to face fuel shortage in next few weeks as local oil refineries had cut capacity utilization by 40 per cent due to heavy stocks of furnace oil.

The spokesman said in fact the local refineries were producing all the products as per existing demand. Efforts have been made to increase consumption of furnace oil available in surplus with refineries by allowing Wapda, trading and bunkering companies and other bulk consumers to procure the product from local refineries, he added.
