KARACHI: Increase in water quota demanded

KARACHI, Oct 25: City Nazim Naimtullah Khan has requested the federal government through a letter to increase water quota for Karachi from 1,200 to 1,800 cusec per day.

He disclosed this at Hub pumping station here on Saturday. He was accompanied by the Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sanitation Board, Brig Asif Ghazali.

The Nazim said that the city government had made serious efforts to resolve water crisis, which resulted in improved water supply system.

He said that the supply of water from Hub source had been disconnected for the last five years. However, he added that the dam had reached to its maximum capacity that would be sufficient for the next three years.

Mr Ghazali said that water would be available to all parts of the city with maximum pressure and fair distribution of water would be ensured.

The Deputy Managing Director of KWSB, Suleman Chandio, said that Hub canal had been cleaned and repaired after a lapse of 19 years. He pledged that no area in Karachi would be without water in Ramazan.

Later, Naimatullah Khan visited various areas hooked to Hub water source. —PPI
