Provinces told to ensure peace during Ramazan

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 24: The centre has directed all provinces to ensure complete peace during the holy month of Ramazan, Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat told Dawn on Friday.

The minister said police chiefs of four provinces had been directed to ensure religious harmony during the holy month.

The provinces, he said, had been asked to deploy paramilitary forces especially in sensitive areas.

He said the police of four provinces had been asked to convene meetings with the leaders of religious sects and motivate peace committees in all districts. “In these meetings, leaders of different sects would be asked to avoid delivering speeches against any sect and cooperate with law-enforcement agencies in maintaining peace,” he said.

The minister said police commandos would be deployed at all mosques, Imambargahs, churches and public places.

“In case of any leniency, action would be taken against responsible police officials,” the minister said.

About the arrest of killers of Maulana Azam Tariq, he said law-enforcement agencies had found solid evidence regarding the murder.
