MQM chief demands jobs for local people

JACOBABAD, Oct 24: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has criticized multinational oil and gas exploration companies for not employing the local people.

Speaking at a public meeting by telephone here on Thursday, he demanded an end to exploitation of the people of Sindh, said a Muttahida press release issued on Friday.

He regretted that fertile lands of Sindh had been given to outsiders and it had been denied its share in the National Finance Commission award.

He said it was necessary for the solidarity of the country that Sindh was ensured its due rights and its interests were protected.

About construction of the Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam, Mr Hussain stressed the need for removing apprehensions of the people of Sindh regarding the projects.

He said a sense of deprivation would prevail among the people of the province if the water projects were constructed without their consent. The Muttahida chief also criticized feudal lords, who claimed to be fighting for the cause of the people of Sindh, for surrendering the rights of the province for their personal gains.

He called upon the people to unite on the platform of the Muttahida to wage a struggle for the rights of the province.
