KARACHI, Oct 24: The Wapda chairman, Zulfiqar Ali Khan, has appreciated the performance of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation in providing maximum facilities to its consumers and recovering the outstanding dues.

The chairman was talking to journalists after visiting modern Customers Service Centre in Gulshan-i-Iqbal. The centre is catering to the need of 66,288 consumers and 61,302 consumers in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. However, the centre will be formally inaugurated on Saturday by Nazim Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Abdul Wahab.

Mr Zulfiqar said that the ultimate plan of the KESC was to devolve the city into 97 sub-divisions having small units catering around 17,000 consumers. He appreciated that line losses had been reduced with the dedicated efforts of KESC monitoring teams.

The recoveries had significantly improved, as it was easy to achieve the target after restructuring zones into small centres, he said. The establishment of these centres would further improve the monitoring system, he added.

He said that there was no load-shedding in the whole of Karachi at present and consumers were getting more facilities than they got in the past. However, he added, there was still room for improvement.

The Managing Director of KESC, Brig Tariq Sadozai, who was also present at the briefing, informed the WAPDA chairman that the KESC had planned to restructure its 22 zones where maximum facilities would be available to consumer under one roof.

He said that the Clifton service centre, which started functioning on March 3, had been entertaining 58,000 consumers with the support of three sub-divisions. The Wapda chairman was informed that Saddar and SITE zones were under restructuring phase. —APP
