LARKANA, Oct 23: As the probe into the killing of journalist Amir Bakhsh Brohi continues, the investigation wing of the Shikarpur police moved an application in the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, seeking permission to examine the bank accounts of the journalist and his uncle, Habibullah Brohi.
The petition filed by the SHO, investigation, Lakhi Gate, Shikarpur, came up for hearing on Thursday where the SHO had sought permission to examine the bank accounts of the late Amir Bakhsh Brohi and Habibullah Brohi.
The bank accounts which the investigation police wanted to examine are with the United Bank Limited, Lakhi Gate; Habib Bank Limited, Steurat Ganj; and the National Savings Centre I and II, Shikarpur.
The SHO on behalf of the state said that during investigation it was revealed that the journalist was killed over some financial transactions with the accused persons.
The applicant, SHO investigation, in his petition said that in order to establish the financial transactions, if any, of Mr Amir, it was necessary to collect relevant evidence from the banks.
He prayed the High Court to direct the managers of the above banks and financial institutions for examining the bank record and supplying the bank statement of the deceased as required under section 561 CrPC to enable the SHO to investigate the case properly and in accordance with the law.
The applicant said that earlier such applications moved in the court of the district and sessions judge, Shikarpur, was dismissed for want of jurisdiction on Oct 17.
The additional advocate general, Mohammad Bachal Tunio, said that due to some inadvertence Habibullah Brohi, whose account was also sought to be examined during the investigation, had not been included as a respondent in the case. He sought permission to add the name of Habibullah Brohi.
The division bench, consisting of Justice Ali Aslam Jafferi and Justice Syed Zawar Hussain Jafferi, granting permission said that the amended title page should be filed within three days by including the name of Habibullah Brohi.
The petition will come up for hearing on Oct 30.
DISTRICT COUNCIL: The members of the district council, Larkana, demanded that there should be an equilibrium between urban and rural area Nazims and Naib Nazims while fixing honorarium for them in Sindh province.
Taking the rostrum, Safdar Mithani, while supporting the motion, said that even in Balochistan Nazims and Naib Nazims were getting Rs5,000 and Rs3,000 per month respectively. Showing the notification of the Balochistan government to this effect, he said Sindh is the province that contributes the major share in the central financial pool.
He announced to knock the doors of the court against such an inequality.
