JACOBABAD, Oct 23: Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Rahila Tiwana has termed the macabre custom of Karo-kari as an open terrorism which should be suppressed as this cancer has eroded the basic fabric of society.
She was speaking at a seminar on violence against women here on Thursday.
Ms Tiwana said she would move a resolution in the Sindh Assembly on Karo-kari and other issues related to violence against women.
She termed the Jirga system as illegal and assured it would be abolished throughout the province.
The deputy speaker said women would be empowered from union council level to the Senate and awareness would be created to protect and safeguard rights of women.
She said assemblies were created to mitigate sufferings of people but regretted that opposition parties were playing very negative role.
Earlier, Hilda Said, Ayaz Ali, Sheen Farrukh and others spoke on the occasion.
Talking to newsmen, Rahila Tiwana lauded services of Shahid Soomro and Amir Bux Brohi who laid their lives while fighting against the state-supported feudal system in the interior of Sindh.
BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified woman was recovered in the Juman Shah village, Mirpur Buriro, Thul taluka.
The woman in her late twenties had torture marks on her body which was taken to the taluka hospital Thul for postmortem.
KILLED: A man, Rasheed Tamghani, was killed by Tamghani tribesmen in a clash.
