HYDERABAD: 31 ACE officers transferred

HYDERABAD, Oct 23: The Anti-Corruption Establishment has transferred 31 officers throughout Sindh to improve efficiency of the department.

Reliable sources told Dawn that some of the officers were entrenched at their places of appointment for over 30 years. They said some were earlier transferred but they managed to get the orders cancelled because of their political clout.

When Sindh ACE director Ghulam Qadir Thebo was contacted by telephone in Karachi he confirmed that the transfer orders of 31 personnel had been issued.

SPLA ELECTION: The election committee, Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, on Thursday announced the results of the SPLA election of Hyderabad region.

Prof Sher Khan Selro was elected the regional president of the association and Mohammad Laiqu Thebo, Mohammad Arshad Qasimi, Shahida Siraj, Gul Sher Nabi, Zafar Ahmad Siddiqui, Ghulam Sarwar Leghari, Khurram Rafi Siddiqui, Shanila Ansari, Syed Sohail Ahmad Jafri, Shah Jehan Panhwar and Abdullah Mallah were elected senior vice-president, vice-president, woman vice-president, general-secretary, additional secretary, senior joint secretary, joint secretary, woman joint secretary, finance secretary, press secretary and cultural secretary respectively.

SYMPOSIUM: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has announced that President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali and leading specialists and medical scientists from Pakistan and abroad will attend a three-day medical international conference and symposium scheduled to be held at the campus on Nov 19-21.

The announcement on Thursday said Dr Ayaz Samdani and Dr Ghulam Murtaza Malik from Chicago, USA who called on the vice- chancellor of the university, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon on Wednesday were briefed about the conference and symposium.

EXAMS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Thursday announced the schedule of theory programme of third professional MBBS (new course) bi-annual examination 2003 which is being held from Nov 5 at LUMHS Jamshoro, Chandka Medical College, Larkana and Peoples Medical College, Nawabshah.

According to the schedule, community medicine paper will be held on Nov 5 from 11am to 2pm, special pathology paper on Nov 6, obstetrics paper on Nov 7 and paper of gynaecology will be held on Nov 8 from 11am to 1pm.

The university modified the timings of eye paper of final professional MBBS annual examination 2003 scheduled to be held on Oct 29 as 1pm to 4pm instead of 2pm to 5pm due to Ramazan.
