RAWALPINDI, Oct 22: The Anti-Terrorism Court-I on Wednesday sent 33 activists of Millat-e-Islamia Pakistan (MIP) to Adiala Jail for resorting to rampage in Islamabad soon after saying the funeral prayers of their assassinated leader Maulana Azam Tariq on October 7. The accused had been booked by the Aabpara police.
The police produced all the accused before the judge, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, after the completion of their first judicial remand.
An employee of Melody Cinema had died of suffocation, while about a dozen people had been injured and many building damaged when the infuriated MI activists started damaging the public and private property soon after the funeral prayers of Maulana Tariq.
Those who were sent to jail included Bashir Ahmed, Abdur Rehman, Qasim, Owais, Asad, Liaqat, Pervez, Nasir, Sheeraz, Umar Farooq, Waseem, Imtiaz, Imran, Asghar Shah, Ishfaq, Naseer, Zaheed Murad, Azam Ali, Mansoor, Aabid, Usman, Attique, Zafarullah, Amjid Ihsan, Chan Zeb, Mohammad Khalid, Bashir, Wahid, Navid, Rashid, Zafeer, Allah Yar and Rehman.
The court also adjourned the hearing of the case till Oct 31.
Meanwhile, the same court directed the police to arrest the complainant in the famous Shah Najaf terrorism case, Shahid Zaidi, from the court premises and send him to jail. The complainant had failed to bring his prosecution to the court despite directives owing to which the trial was facing inordinate delay. The court also adjourned the case till Nov 25.
