PESHAWAR, Oct 22: The Millat Party has asked opposition parties in the National Assembly to put an end to their politics of agitation and let parliament complete its term.

“We are trying to block the army’s interference and role in the affairs of the government, but opposition parties and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) appear to be least interested in the issue,” said general secretary Millat Party and senator Mohmmed Ali Durrani.

Accusing the joint opposition of deceiving the masses by making ruckus on non-issues he said, they should voice their concerns and represent their voters on the floor of the house and abandon confrontational politics.

“ President Musharraf wants to put an end to the army’s role in politics but opposition parties are not responding positively,” Mr Durrani said.

He invited opposition parties to join parliamentary proceedings and play their due constitutional part to help parliament play its role viz-a-viz framing of laws as per the Constitution.

“They have become a mere cafeteria group,” said Mr Durrani.

“They don’t take part in parliamentary proceedings but at the end of every month they regularly receive their honorarium,” he said.

The country, he added, could no more afford the politics of ‘cafeteria’ and ‘drawing rooms’.

About the Millat Party’s activities he said the party chief, former president Sardar Farooq Leghari was working on a plan to help the country overcome the continuing water crisis and resolve disputes between the provinces.

The plan, he added, would shortly be made public by the party chief in a press conference.
