Nazim of Mandi Bahauddin restored

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 22: A Supreme Court bench on Wednesday restored Nazar Mohammand Gondal as district Nazim of Mandi Bahauddin.

Nazar Mohammad Gondal, a PPP-supported Nazim, was voted out in August.

He stated before the court that under the Local Government Ordinance, Punjab, voting on the motion of non-confidence was not possible before three days.

Representing Mr Gondal, Barrister Aitezaz Ahsan contended that the authorities concerned did not wait for three-day mandatory period, and voting took place within two days.

The SC bench, comprising Justice Munir A. Sheikh and Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, granted leave to appeal to Nazar Mohammad Gondal and restored him as Nazim. His restoration is subject to final decision on the petition which would be heard later on.
