Khakwani’s membership provisionally restored

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 21: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) provisionally restored on Tuesday the membership of the ruling party MNA, Ishaq Khakwani, who was barred from functioning as a member of the National Assembly for his failure to submit his statement of assets and liabilities.

On Oct 15, the CEC had barred five legislators, including one MNA and four MPAs from Punjab, from functioning as legislators for their failure to submit yearly statement. All of them have submitted their statements and the CEC has restored them as members.

An announcement by the CEC on Tuesday said that Mr Zain Khakwani, son of Ishaq Khakwani, personally filed the statement of assets and liabilities on behalf of his father.

Mr Zain made a statement before the EC official that his father was abroad on an official visit and had directed him to submit the statement of assets and liabilities on his behalf.
