EC declares results for Nazim seats

QUETTA, Oct 21: The provincial election commission has announced unofficial results of the polls held for vacant seats of Nazims and Naib Nazims in some districts of Balochistan.

The present government had announced the formation of some new tehsils and therefore new seats for Nazims and Naib Nazims were created.

The polling on Monday was held for those seats and in some areas by-elections were held.

Faiz Mohammad Khan Jamali was elected as Jaffarabad District Naib Nazim by getting 488 votes; Nasir Ahmed received 102 votes and was elected as Ziarat District Naib Nazim; Mohammad Ali was declared Chaghai District Naib Nazim by taking 229 votes; Chakar Ali received 45 votes and was elected as Gwadar Tehsil Naib Nazim; Juma Khan Shakrani got 37 votes and was elected as Mola Tehsil Nazim in Khuzdar district; Mohammad Anwar elected as Bela Tehsil Nazim with 68 votes.

The EC announced to hold run-up elections on Oct 28, in Barkhan district, Zhob tehsil, Dalbandin tehsil and Loralai district as the candidates failed to get 51 per cent votes in the current polls.

APP adds: Chief Justice (Retd) Irshad Hasan Khan, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan on Tuesday fixed Oct 28 for run-off elections to the vacant seats of Zila Nazim, Naib Zila Nazim, Tehsil/Taluka Nazim and Naib Tehsil/Taluka Nazim in Sindh and Balochistan.

The run-off elections to fill these seats will be held on Oct 28, as required under relevant sections of of the Local Government Ordinance, 2001 of Sindh and Balochistan.

In sindh the run-off elections will be held for Naib Zila Nazim, Dadu District and Taluka Nazim, Kandiaro Taluka (Naushero Feroze District).

LIFE TERM: Anti-Narcotics Court Special Judge Mohammad Anwar Kasi has convicted two accused of drug trafficking and awarded life imprisonment and fine of Rs500,000 each here on Tuesday.

The court awarded sentence to Shah Jehan and Sher Mohammad after prosecution proved that the anti-narcotic force had on June 2, 2003 recovered 32 kg of opium from their possession in Gulistan area of Qila Abdullah district.

The court also ordered that both the convicts would go additional five-year imprisonment if failed to pay the fine.

In another case Anti-terrorism Court Judge Mohammad Shaukat Rakhshani ordered that the trail against the arrested accused in the cases of June 8, and July 4, Quetta incidents would begin on the Oct 31.
