KARACHI: Judgment reserved in kidnapping case

KARACHI, Oct 21: An anti-terrorism court reserved on Tuesday the judgment in a kidnapping for ransom case.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 fixed Oct 25 for the pronoucement of judgement after hearing final arguments from the prosecution and the defence.

Ghulam Hussain Soomro, Mohammed Akbar and Imran have been prosecuted for kidnapping Abdus Samad, 18, for Rs3 million ransom on Aug 24 in Garden West.

According to prosecution, four men came to the residence of Mohammed Hanif, a prize bond dealer, around 10am. They asked his elder son to take a file from their car for his father. The two sons of the dealer accompanied them to the car and they forcibly took away Samad.

The younger brother, a student of class seven, was able to remember the registration number of the kidnappers’ car, which belonged to a rent-a-car agency.

The kidnappers demanded Rs3 million as ransom for the release of Abdus Samad, a metriculation student.

The police arrested Ghulam Hussain Soomro, who had rented the car (H-7296). The accused led to the arrest of his two accomplice and recovery of the hostage on Aug 28.

Appeal filed: An appeal was filed in the Sindh High Court by convict Mohammad Ashraf Khan against conviction awarded to him by Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Karachi in conspiracy case to assassinate President Pervez Musharraf, adds PPI.

ATC-1 Judge Aley Maqbool Rizvi sentenced accused Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Hanif and Muhammad Ashraf Khan to 10 years RI for offence of conspiracy.
