Kidnapping bid foiled by police

SHIKARPUR, Oct 19: Two youths, Parvez Ali alias Joji, 22, and Zohaib Pathan, 17, were kidnapped by a gang of eight armed men near Eidgah, Garhi Yasin, late Saturday night.

On learning about it, a heavy police contingent, led by the DPO, Shikarpur, Arif Haneef, and the SP, Investigation, Fida Hussain Mastoi, went looking for the kidnappers.

After a heavy exchange of fire, police succeeded in freeing the hostages from the clutches of the armed men near the Agha Nizamuddin garden, some five kms from Garhi Yasin. However, the armed men managed to escape.

TWO INJURED: Two people, Fayaz Ahmed Wadhyo and Niaz Ahmed Wadhyo, were seriously injured when a truck rammed into their rickshaw near the Mahar Mangi village on Sunday.

Mahar: Federal Minister for Railways Ghous Bux Khan Mahar has said the government is trying its best to curb terrorist and criminal activities to ensure peace, tranquillity and protection of the life, honour and property of the common man as it is the prime responsibility of the government.

He said this while talking to journalists here on Friday at the local press club after offering Fateha for journalist Ameer Bux Brohi who was killed some 15 days ago in Shikarpur.
