Iran visit to boost ties, says Jamali
ISLAMABAD, Oct 19: Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mohammad Ebrahim Tahrian on Sunday called on the Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali here at the Prime Minister’s House.
The ambassador informed the Prime Minister that President Muhammad Khatami and the Iranian government were looking forward to the prime minister’s visit.
The prime minister said Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Iran, adding that he was undertaking the visit to strengthen the existing bilateral relations, particularly in the economic sphere as well as to promote greater identity of views on major issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar was also present during the meeting.
IRAN VISIT: Prime Minister Jamali, who is leaving for Iran on Oct 21 on an official visit, would now return on Oct 23 instead of Oct 24 because of some pressing engagements.
Official sources cited important political matters that necessitated his presence in the country in this regard, adding that the Parliament was still in session.
The prime minister, they said, would also receive delegations and preside over important meetings here in Islamabad, therefore, minor changes have been made in his tour to Iran.
The prime minister’s visit would focus on holding bilateral talks with the Iranian leadership, including President Syed Mohammad Khatami and Supreme Iranian Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamnei besides addressing the Pakistani community in Iran. The talks between the two countries would conclude on Oct 22.
The Prime Minister would not be staying in Mashhad as originally planned, the sources added.—APP
