KARACHI, Oct 19: Poet-educationist Prof. Manzar Ayubi enthralled the audience at the Arts Council on Saturday by his poetry-recital.
He was chief guest of the evening while known critic Mr Ahmed Hamdani was in the chair. While admiring Manzar’s poetry, Hamdani said the former’s contribution to the writings of the present times will always be remembered. He was immensely popular as this evening’s response to his poetry amply proved. His poetic appeal, Hamdani said was based on emotions and thus touched the heart.
The main paper on the person and poetry of Prof Manzar Ayubi was read out by Prof Afaq Siddiqui, the friendly relationship between the two spanned over five decades. Siddiqui recalled the efforts, including his own to bring the writers of Urdu and Sindhi closer through joint literary sittings and mushairas.
Earlier, a paper was presented by Ms Ghazala Habib among those who introduced the poet and his academic contribution included Mohammad Idris Siddiqui and also Ms Hejab Manzar, the poet’s own daughter. Mr Izhar Haideri paid his complements in his verse.
A small booklet written on the life and work of Prof Manzar Ayubi was also distributed. It may be recalled that the poet was born in Badayoon (UP) in 1932, came over to Pakistan in 1950, did his MA in Urdu in 1959 from the University of Karachi, joined the Sindh education department in 1961 where he served till his retirement as a senior professor in 1994.
