MELBOURNE, Oct 18: The 9-2 favourite Mummify led from barrier to post to win the 2.5 million dollar (1.7 million USD) Caulfield Cup over 2,400 metres (1-1/2 miles) on Saturday.

Mummify, ridden by Danny Nikolic, gave Australian trainer Lee Freedman his fourth success in one of the main leadup races to the Melbourne Cup.

Backed from 11-2 to 9-2, Mummify, who is by 1994 Melbourne Cup winner Jeune out of Cleopatra’s Girl, a daughter of 1986 Melbourne Cup winner At Talaq, held on to score by three-quarters of a length from Grey Song (30-1) with Distinctly Secret (6-1) a nose away third.

His winning time of 2:25.98 was the second fastest Caulfield Cup run, behind only 2000 winner Diatribe, who holds the course record of 2:25.32.
