Lawyers beat up journalists

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 17: The supporters of the Lahore High Court Bar Association vice-president Tariq Pervez Janjua allegedly attacked and beat photo-journalists as he was leaving the court after having been granted “after arrest bail” here on Friday, witnesses said.

They said Mr Janjua was coming out of the court of Civil Judge Rai Mohammad Kharal when the photo-journalists, including Khalid, Abid Zia, Muddasir and Amjad Chaudhry, attempted to take some pictures. On this, Mr Janjua’s supporters, including some advocates, allegedly pounced upon the journalists.

“They snatched cameras from photographers while kicking and punching them, and also thrashed the journalists covering the court proceeding. However, the police intervention rescued the journalists from the angry mob,” the witnesses said.

Later, the journalists, led by Azhar bin Karim, lodged a complaint with the Civil Lines police against the attackers.
