ISLAMABAD, Oct 17: Chief Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmad on Friday directed the district and sessions judge of Sanghar and the Sindh police chief to hold separate inquiries into the murder of a couple in Sanghar on the direction of a local Jirga.

The Chief Justice took suo motu notice of the matter after the news that Mohammad Hasan and Shazia, who had married of their own free will, were shot dead by a firing squad in pursuance of the Jirga decision appeared in the media.

The marriage was resented by the Khaskheli clan to which the girl belonged and the couple, on being arrested, was kept in illegal confinement for some time.

The two were later shot dead despite resistance of girl’s father who told the Jirga he had pardoned his daughter.

The Chief Justice directed the district and sessions judge to submit a report in one week. The SSP, Sanghar, and the area SHO were directed to appear in person before the court next Friday. The Sindh police chief was also directed to submit a separate report about the incident next Friday.
