KARACHI: Asif’s plea granted

Published October 18, 2003

KARACHI, Oct 17: District and Sessions Judge Central Karachi, Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani, on Friday ordered the state counsel to provide prosecution copies to the defence side in the Justice Nizam Ahmed murder case against Asif Ali Zardari and three others.

The judge, on the last hearing, had ordered to provide prosecution case copies to the defence side, but they were not provided on Friday. The court took notice of the delay and directed the investigation officer of the case to ensure supply of documents to the state counsel.

Mr Asif Zardari was produced before the court amid tight security. The co-accused Bilal Sheikh, Javed Akhtar Pirzada and Babar Sindhu, now on bail, also appeared.

Meanwhile, the court granted the plea of Asif Zardari to remain in the city till October 20 for medical treatment. The trial, being held in central jail Karachi, was fixed for October 31 with consent from both the sides.—PPI
