HYDERABAD, Oct 17: The president, Sindh Water Committee, Rasool Bux Palijo, has demanded that the malpractice in the distribution of water resources should be investigated by some international agency.

He was briefing newsmen at his residence here on Thursday at the conclusion of the Sindh Water Committee meeting.

Lashing out at the government, he claimed that neither Pakistan nor the government could survive without Sindh and Sindhis.

Mr Palijo, who is also the chief of the Awami Tehrik, said that the government was playing a dangerous game to prolong its rule for some more time and jeopardizing the unity of the country.

Referring to the seven-point agenda of President Gen Pervez Musharraf, he said that at that time the general had conceded that Sindh had been discriminated against.

He, however, said that during four years of his regime, the general had caused more harm to Sindh and also endangered the unity of Pakistan.

Mr Palijo said that during the dictatorial rule of Gen Pervez Musharraf, Sindh had suffered tremendously when compared to the previous regimes.

He said in order to prolong his unconstitutional rule, Gen Musharraf had allotted 1.5 million acres of land to generals in the Thal area, which will be irrigated at the cost of millions of acres of Sindh’s land following the construction of the greater Thal canal.

He accused the rulers of implementing a dangerous agenda by creating hatred among the provinces and confusion among the people.

Referring to the appointment of army officials as heads of various government departments, Mr Palijo called upon patriotic and democratic forces to unite on one platform to save the country.

He demanded that the on-going work on the greater Thal canal should be stopped forthwith, Chashma-Jhelum and Taunsa-Panjnad canals should be closed and the conspiracies to construct dams should be given up.

He said concentration should be on the conservation and judicious use of water resources and modernization of the agricultural sector.

He said the Tarbela Dam should be desilted and the people should be allowed to settle all national issues in a democratic manner.

Mr Palijo said that the government did not represent the people of Pakistan, and added that billions of rupees of international loans were being spent in Punjab.

He demanded that Wapda should be wound up.

He declared that under no circumstances would the people of Sindh agree to the construction of the Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal.

Other members of the Sindh Water Committee who were present in the briefing included Abdul Majeed Nizamani, Abrar Qazi, Muzaffar Sadiq Bhatti and Dr Nazeer Shaikh.

BISE: The controller of examinations, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad has notified for students concerned that the Higher Secondary Certificate part-I and II (class XI and XII) supplementary examination 2003, which were scheduled to be held from 15th Oct 2003, have been postponed and will now be held from Oct 20.
