KARACHI, Oct 17: The women wing of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, Karachi, organized a literary dialogue on “Hudood Ordinance in the light of Qur’an and Sunnah”, here on Friday.
In the dialogue, which was attended by around 500 women, a resolution was unanimously approved that no amendment or revocation of the Hudood Ordinance would be accepted. The resolution demanded of the government to reject the report of Women Commission in this regard. Besides, religious scholars were appealed that they should guide public about the rights of women in Friday congregations.
Justice Ghous Muhammad said that the Sharia laws were protecting women’s rights. He said that it could not be proved that there was any flaw in these laws.
Mufti Muneebur Rehman said that effective implementation system was needed to enforce the existing laws rather changing the laws. He said that there was a possibility of women discrimination in British or American laws, however, the Sharia laws enforced here provided complete protection to women.
Dr Fareeda Ahmed deplored that some women were trying to create misconceptions about the Hudood Ordinance due to their little study of women rights. She maintained that wherever in the country efforts would be made to amend or revoke the Hudood Ordinance, the religious and respectful women would come forward to fight against these attempts.
MNA Farhana Khalid alleged that the women, who were involved in making propaganda against the Hudood Ordinance, were pursuing the Western agenda. Justice Shafi Muhammadi also spoke. —PPI
