CEC restores MPA’s status

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: Haji Qaiser Amin Butt, a PML-Q MPA from Punjab, on Thursday regained his position as a public representative after he submitted declaration of assets and liabilities.

He had earlier been barred from holding public office for not complying with the relevant law in this regard.

A notification, issued by the Election Commission stated: “The CEC is pleased to rescind the notification to the extent that the membership of Haji Qaiser Ameen Butt as member of the provincial assembly of Punjab is restored forthwith.”

Haji Qaiser Amin was one of the five legislators, who were barred by Election Commissioner on Wednesday from “functioning” as public representatives for having failed to submit their yearly statements regarding their assets.

The EC statement said that Haji Qaiser Amin Butt submitted the statement of assets and liabilities on Oct 16 with the commission.

It further said that EC had also received a facsimile copy of statement of assets and liabilities from Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar, MPA Punjab, which was not “entertained.” The EC said that it would not entertain any of the facsimile statements in this regard.

The Election Commission has not yet received the required statements from MNA Ishaq Khakwani of the PML-Q and two other ruling party’s MPAs from Punjab, Malik Jawad Kamran Khar and Mrs Lubna Malik.
