PUTRAJAYA, Oct 16: The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday expressed deep disappointment over India’s reluctance to resume dialogue with Pakistan and reaffirmed its commitment to promote a just and peaceful solution to the lingering dispute in line with UN resolutions.

The meeting of the group, chaired by the Turkish president and attended among others by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, regretted India’s rejection of Pakistan’s proposal for a reciprocal ceasefire along the LoC and within occupied Kashmir.

In a Declaration on Jammu and Kashmir adopted by the meeting, the group said it was deeply disappointed that “India has sought to evade resumption of dialogue for resolution of differences and finding a peaceful solution on the pretext of cross-border infiltration.”

The Declaration regretted that India had rejected proposals for verifiable monitoring of the Line of Control.

The group said it was alarmed over the continued tension in South Asia caused by India’s refusal to reduce deployment of its forces along the LoC and the Working Boundary in Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing concern over the intensification of repression and the continued violation of human rights of Kashmiris, including the denial of their right to self-determination, the meeting urged the international community to take effective steps against those abuses.—APP
