By-election postponed

Published October 17, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: The chief election commissioner on Thursday postponed the by-election of the Bolan district nazim, which was scheduled to be held on Oct 20.

An announcement said the Balochistan home and tribal affairs department had reported to the Election Commission that the law and order situation in the district was likely to aggravate with the holding of the by-election as the Raisani and Rind tribes were likely to clash.

It said the bye-election was postponed to avoid bloodshed in a possible clash. No fresh date for the election was announced.
